Piano prodigy in our midst
City-based western music prodigy Syed Fateen Ahmed was one among the 29 children who received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award on Monday. Fourteen-year-old Fateen, who began learning music at the age of three, is now a western classical pianist, guitarist, and vocalist trained by international teachers.

“My mother applied for this award last year after she got to know about it from a friend. It is a great feeling and an honour to receive this award. I feel proud to represent India,” Fateen told Deccan Herald. Fateen takes western piano lessons from Belarusianconcert pianists and concertmasters NatalliaKapylova and LiudmillaAlizarchyk. At the age of 12, in December 2020, he also became one of the youngest Indians to complete a diploma with distinction at the London College of Music (LCM).
Fateen’s parents Asma and Syed Zameer said their son was honoured to receive the award. “We read the Prime Minister’s tweet about him and are touched. It is very encouraging.”

On account of International Pi Day on 15 March, 2023, the Higher Primary students conducted a quiz and performed a skit on the origin of Pi. Ashana Agumbe of Std V, could quote from memory upto 220 decimal places of Pi within 2 minutes.
